While the history of Valentine’s Day stretches all the way back to Ancient Rome, Valentine’s cards as w know them can be traced back to the 18th century.
These early handmade cards were decorated with romantic symbols such as flowers and love knots, often including puzzles and poetry. These cards were then slipped under a door or tied to a door-knocker.
During the industrialization boon of the1800s, huge leaps in printing and manufacturing made it easier to mass-produce Valentine’s cards– but at the end of the day, there’s nothing quite like making one yourself!
